The company was founded in September 1990 in Vienna. From 1990 to 1997 were only offered sports betting. The assumption was betting by telephone. Interwetten is a founding member of the non-profit organization European Gaming & Betting Association (EGBA), founded in 2005 and a member of the European Sports Security Association (ESSA).
The company acts as a sponsor of various sports events and clubs. Interwetten is the main sponsor of the Spanish football club Sevilla and the Swiss professional motorcyclist Tom Lüthi, who runs since in 2010 Interwetten Moto2 team. For 10 years, has been supported the Interwetten Interwetten Racing Team, which is in the World Series by Renault.
From 2001 to 2004 Interwetten was the sponsor of Austrian Football First League SC Untersiebenbrunn, which at that time took the name SC Interwetten.com. In 2009 Interwetten served as title sponsor of the Interwetten Austrian Open, Kitzbuhel, an ATP tournament in the 250 category. In 2010 sponsored to Hiroshi Aoyama at the Interwetten Honda MotoGP team, and Marcel Schrötter at the Interwetten 125cc motorcycle world championship in the same team.
